Personal Shoppers

A style consultant can be your savior if you have no sense of style

Shopping and the joy it brings keeping up with the latest styles in fashion. Could shopping for a living actually be your career path? If you know your stuff and love to shop it just might be the job of your dreams. As a personal shopper you get to spend the day doing what you love the most...shopping! For this kind of job you do need to have people skills.

As a personal shopper you must be able to look at people on an individual basis and break down exactly what needs to be done to improve their fashion. After that task is complete the personal shopper must then spend one on one time with the individual to show examples of what needs to be purchased in person, alternatively a personal shopper can be given free reign to shop on the clients behalf and return the items best suited.

There isn't any formal training that goes into becoming a personal shopper, it's more about selling your skill set and abilities. To put yourself on the path of being able to be a personal shopper follow these tips.

Are Personal Shoppers Really Worth it? Is it really worth having a personal shopper, especially when you can get a lot of the same services from a personal assistant for a much cheaper price?

While that may be true in some cases a personal assistant can't do everything a shopper does, and even more pressing is the fact that personal shoppers give more of a personal touch when it comes to their work. So what makes these people so unique? Let's have a look.

What are personal shoppers? Generally, a personal shopper can work in one of two ways. First, they can function like a concierge service, tell them what you are looking for and off they go, finding everything to your exact specification and bringing it back to you. The other way shoppers work is by escorting you on a shopping tour, helping you find outfits and styles that might match or suit you.

A lot of high end travelers make use of local personal shoppers, especially if they wish to find nice items that may not be advertised in the touristy spots, or simply just forgot something of necessity and need to find it. A shopper, unlike a guidebook or interactive map knows the layout of the land and the stores from the inside. It's their job to shop, so they know about the most current sales, the newest trends in fashion, and of course, where to find just about everything.

Depending on the shopper you hire, they also come to your home or place of residence as well and assess your current wardrobe or take a look at your grocery list. If you're missing something, rest assured a personal shopper can help you figure out what it is or help you find it.

How much does this cost? Not surprisingly, it isn't cheap to hire the services of a shopper. With that being said however, the price has cut down dramatically. Not only do rich people use shoppers now but so do business savvy people and individuals who are always on the fast lane. Still, some shoppers can charge hourly rates in the hundreds per hour, and that's not including the items you will buy.

If you are generally pretty savvy at shopping than having a personal shopper may not be for you however, if you have a hard time picking the perfect wardrobe or just don't have the slightest clue on fashion and can fork up the cash, you will find their assistance quite useful. Their goal is to help you spend less for more, even though you are paying a lot for their services. Call it a trade off, you may have spent a lot of money without the shopper, buying more than you needed to buy, yet saving the amount of money you would spend for one of these professionals.

Personal shoppers, best friends It is generally the goal of a personal shopper to make the customer happy. With that being said, sometimes you just have to take it back if they're not happy with it. Most reputable shoppers will try and develop a relationship with you. They not only want you to look good in your new wardrobe but feel good too. Shoppers can also help you if you're struggling to maintain a good self image.

Remember, you're most likely a business professional of some sort if you are using a personal shopper, so keeping that charming yet professional image is of great importance. If you have a question about a product your stylist or shopper will know the answer, and if they don't, it' their goal to find out for you.

All in all, if you are a busy professional and enjoy looking good but just don't know how or don't have the patience, a personal shopper just might be worth it for you. Keep in mind you want to work with someone who is reputable. Ask for references, check for websites and try to find out their experience shopping for others before deciding to give them a try.
