How to Start a Fashion Blog

Start Your Own Fashion Blog
new fashion blog

If you find yourself boring your friends with constant chatter about style and fashion, you may need to start your own fashion blog. People who have a lot to say about a particular topic, such as fashion, are well-suited to blogging.

To start, you need to love writing, and love fashion. Blogs take time and care and offer very little in the way of feedback for a long time. In many circumstances, it may take over a year of regular blogging to start ranking well in the search engine results, which is how people find you and start following you. If you have the passion and the time, fashion blogging can be a fun and rewarding experience that gives you an outlet for your personal feelings regarding style and fashion.

Why do you want to blog? You need to be able to clearly define what you want your blog to accomplish. Is it just a fun way for you to keep track of outfits you like, or are you going to do more in-depth reviews of fashion shows? Are you going to be blogging as a way to put off homework and housework, or are you hoping to eventually get a job in the fashion industry?

Before you even start, you have to recognize how much time it's really going to take to become a blogger. While it takes mere minutes to read a blog post, it can take hours to write one. If you're serious about blogging, you should consider giving yourself a strict schedule. Regular posting is the only tried-and-true way to build and audience. However, if it's just for fun, you can get away with occasional postings when you're inspired by something.

What should you call your new blog? It's essential you pick the perfect name. You're going to be using the name for a long time, because changing names can confuse your followers and may even cause you to need to start completely over. If you can, use a unique name and check to see if it's available on many platforms, like Twitter, Reddit and Pinterest. It may take you a long time to settle on a name, but it will be worth it in the end.

Where should you blog? There are many different platforms out there for you to choose for your new fashion blog. Blogger is quite popular and very easy to work with, while still having a wide variety of layouts and customization options. Tumblr also has loads of themes to pick from and is also really easy to use. More experienced users may want to try Wordpress, MessyCloset, Posterous or Squarespace. Many platforms are free, but some may cost a minimal fee.

When do you start? Once you have chosen your blog name, chosen your platform and picked a layout, you're ready to blog! Start as soon as you can. It doesn't matter what you first start writing about. You can ease in with an introductory post about yourself, or just jump right in. It doesn't even need to be writing. You can blog with photographs. In fact, fashion blogs should have at least a few relevant photos in every post.

How to cure writer's block. Sometimes the most difficult thing is thinking up topics to write about. The easiest way to make sure you always have a topic is to keep a camera and a small notebook with you at all times. That way, whenever you're out and about, you can jot down when something catches your eye or crosses your mind. You'll have a handy little book full of things to write about in no time!
